Shakhrisabz is located 80 kilometres from Samarkand. Shakhrisabz means "Green City" and is one of the most ancient cities of Uzbekistan.
It is the birthplace of Temirlan.
Khiva is an open-air museum city. The city is 2500 years old. in 1990 UNESCO included it in the World Heritage programme. It is located 30 kilometres from the centre of the Khorezm region Urgench.
Bukhara is one of the largest and oldest cities of the country, a religious, cultural and tourist centre. The Great Silk Road ran through Bukhara.

Samarkand is the most famous of Uzbekistan's historical cities. The caravans of the Great Silk Road passed through here. Samarkand was the capital of the empire of Amir Timur (Tamerlane).
